Course aimsThis course enhances your understanding of research integrity through comprehensive insights into the principles of good scientific practice and international guidelines. “Get your PhD, keep your PhD” - this course equips you with essential skills and knowledge to navigate the complexities of academic research successfully and aids you with your questions or conflicts in the research context.
Content

In this course, we will address common challenges of research.

Topics:

  • Introduction and definitions
  • Principles of good scientific practice incl. (inter-)national recommendations and regulations for safeguarding good research practice and research integrity
  • Potential problem and conflict areas in the research process
  • Misconduct cases in science
  • Scientific data collection and documentation
  • Research data management
  • Copyright, ChatGPT and plagiarism
  • Publications, collaborations and authorship
  • Supervision and organizational culture

If needed: 

  • Authorization or permission relevant research
  • Research on animals
  • Research with and on humans
  • Surveys, interviews, data privacy and security issues of personal data in research
MethodsOur interactive format includes input sessions, case studies, and group discussions, allowing you to share experiences and network with fellow researchers.
TrainerDr. Jana Emontz (she/her)
Trainer?s backgroundDr. Jana Emontz is a lecturer in adult education. She has been teaching natural sciences at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf since 2017 and courses on good scientific practice in German and English at universities and non-university research institutions since 2020. As a certified trainer for good scientific practice and CEO of the Heine Centre for Academic Further Education (HZW), she combines scientific expertise with practical application.
HintsThe course will be held as an online seminar via the ZOOM platform and using Draft.io boards. 
Course documents will be made available in electronic form during and after the course via Sciebo NRW Cloud.

2 weeks before the start of the event

On the day of the registration deadline we decide on the basis of the registrations whether an event can take place or not. Therefore, please register promptly if you are interested! The more registrations we receive, the more certain we can hold the event. Of course, you can still register after the registration deadline if there are still places available.
