The course catalog of Paderborn University is published each semester on 08.07. (winter semester) or 15.01. (summer semester) of each year. If the corresponding date falls on a Saturday or Sunday, the next following weekday (Monday to Friday) is automatically the publication date. You can find a semester-by-semester archive of previous course catalogs in the campus management system “PAUL” via the menu item “Vorlesungsverzeichnis”.

From the time the course catalog is published, students can view all modules and courses at Paderborn University in the web portal (course catalog). However, registration for individually selectable modules and courses is only possible during the registration phases via the semester administration (not via the course catalog) via the menu path Studies -> Semester administration -> Registration for modules and courses and only after successful re-registration for the respective semester.

Registration for modules and courses is possible during the following periods:

Winter semester

15.08. (08:00 a.m.) to 15.09. (11:59 p.m.)
01.10. (08:00 a.m.) to 31.10. (11:59 p.m.)

Summer semester

15.02. (08:00 a.m.) to 15.03. (23:59 p.m.)
01.04. (08:00) to 30.04. (23:59)

If the relevant start date falls on a Saturday, Sunday or public holiday, the next following weekday (Monday to Friday) automatically applies.

The specific registration periods for a module or course are indicated on the respective module or course and can be viewed from the publication of the course catalog.  

Modules and courses already registered for the respective semester can only be deregistered within the aforementioned current registration periods. It is not possible to deregister in the period between the first and second registration phase. After the second registration phase, deregistration is possible until 31.12. (winter semester) or 30.06. (summer semester). For modules and courses in the Faculty of Cultural Studies, it is possible to deregister until the end of the semester.

First examination registration phase

Registration for examinations is possible from three weeks after the start of the second course registration phase until five weeks after the start of the examination registration phase.

Special regulation Faculty of Cultural Studies: The examination registration period ends on the second Wednesday in January (winter semester) or on the last Wednesday in June (summer semester).

Second examination registration phase

It is possible to register for examinations from two weeks after the start of the first course registration phase of the following semester until the Friday of the following week (after the start of the second examination registration phase).

Exam deregistration

Any necessary deregistration for written and oral examinations is usually done in the campus management system “PAUL”. The deregistration period ends two days before the examination date. If it is not possible to deregister in the “PAUL” campus management system because the examination has not yet been scheduled, please send an email to paul@uni-paderborn.de.

Notes

• For all modules in the Faculty of Business Administration and Economics (M.184.**** and M.IBS.****), students automatically register for examinations when they register for the module (so-called implicit examination registration).
• In some areas of Paderborn University, there is a further examination registration phase for the second examination section (e.g. teaching units in physics, chemistry, computer science, mathematics, media studies, possibly also sport and home economics). Examination registration for the above-mentioned second examination phase must be done online in the campus management system “PAUL”.
• Current information on exam registration and deregistration can be found on the website of Department 3.2 | Central Examination Office (ZPS).

• A valid university account is a prerequisite for using the campus management system “PAUL” and therefore also for registering for modules, courses and examinations (creating a university account).
• Registration for modules, courses and examinations is only possible once enrolment or re-registration for the respective semester has been completed (payment has been received in the Paderborn University account by the due date). The status of re-registration can be seen under the menu path My data -> Personal data -> Semester status.
• First semester students can only register for modules and courses in the second registration phase (01.04. to 30.04. or 01.10. to 31.10.).
• In the second registration phase, registrations from the first registration phase can be corrected or supplemented on the basis of the places that are still available or have been created in the meantime.
• In individual modules or courses, the registration phases may differ from the dates stated (information on this can be found in the course details in the course catalog).
• After the end of the deregistration phase in the campus management system “PAUL”, it is only possible to deregister from modules and courses in the respective semester by submitting a corresponding application.

Notes:

1. Registration for placement tests for English, Spanish and French courses at the Language Centre and for placement interviews for Arabic, Polish and Russian courses is only possible during the first registration phase.
2. In other languages and beginners' courses, if demand exceeds capacity after the enrolment period, admission will be determined by lottery and not according to the order of registration. Admission is granted only after the end of the first enrolment phase.

Notes:

1. Learners of English, Spanish, French, Arabic, Polish and Russian who have not yet attended a course at the ZfS, who attended a course more than three semesters ago, or who took the placement test more than one semester ago must register for the placement test/interview during the first registration phase. Interested learners may register for a course corresponding to their level only in the second, much shorter, registration phase. Admission for these languages with placement test/interview is expected to take place on April 4^th.
2. Registration for remaining places in the other languages is possible until April 11^th.
3. Students who were not successful in the lottery after the first registration phase, but urgently need a place, may attend the "H?rtefallsprechstunden" of ZfS staff. Dates for these consultation hours are posted at www.upb.de/zfs under News.
4. Students who have received a place but decide at short notice not to participate should cancel their registration immediately to allow other interested students the opportunity to register.
5. Please note the different registration deadlines for the German courses.

The registered modules and courses of the respective semester can only be deregistered within the above-mentioned current course registration periods. It is not possible to deregister during the period between the first and second course registration periods.

3. Students who were not lucky in the lottery procedure after the 1st registration phase but urgently need a place can attend the hardship consultation hours of the full-time staff of the ZfS. The dates are announced at www.upb.de/zfs under News.
